Name: Vincent Valentine +OWA+
Age: 27 *appears*
Personality: Vincent is a calm, level headed man, who rarely speaks unless spoken to and even then is usually quite brusque and to the point. He used to be quite passionate under certain circumstances but was still relatively quiet and reserved. When first found by Cloud after sleeping for 30 years he was quite moody and uncooperative, and still heavily blamed himself for what he perceived as his 'sin', but over the course of the game, he does mellow out somewhat. When angered or consumed by Chaos, he is a lethal foe and quite willing to kill. after the defeat of Deepground, he is shown to have come to terms with his past and shows a brighter more positive disposition.
Appearance: Vincent stands at 6 foot even with a thin and not very muscular build. Due to the scientific alterations, Vincent's eye color is an unusual crimson red. Naturally, his eye color is brown, though the exact shade varies. Vincent's long hair is waist length and more gravity defying. The comb over from his Turk hairstyle remains, giving the left side more hair and longer bangs. On the right, three thinner strands pop out from the headband and end right above the neckline. Vincent's hair is in the same style and position as when he was a Turk, it's just much longer. Vincent wears a loosely fitted black body suit with two silver belts around the waist. The top half has a fold and is kept together by two columns of four or five silver buttons. The outfit has long sleeves that are rolled up to the elbows and long pant legs, which are tucked into Vincent's boots.Similar to Victorian Opera cloaks, Vincent's red mantle has a full circle, elbow length capelet with a collar that covers the neck and lower half of his face. Five metal clasps run down the length of the shoulder cape, with two left unlatched to allow easy movement. Coming out in the back from under the capelet is a longer, flowing cape. The cape is in perfect condition with few holes or tears in it, and reaches just below the knees. Around Vincent's forehead, a thin red piece of cloth is wrapped about 4 times around. It's possible the headband may be symbolic of his death and rebirth, as it resembles a traditional bandage. A black fingerless glove is worn over Vincent's right hand. His left upper arm, in sharp contrast, is covered by a gold metal claw. The metal cylinder around the arm is separate from the sharp, gold capped fingers, which are most likely attached to a glove. Decorating the cylindrical half of the claw is a sort of upside down bowl that faces toward the elbow and three "stairs" leading up over the hand. Vincent wears knee high, dark brown boots with gold plated pointed toes. Decorating the gold plating are five small circular indents. The top part of the boots are folded over in the pirate style. In addition, bands in the same material as his claw wrap around the area above the ankle.
History: Vincent was once a member of the Turks. He was assigned to supervise The Jenova Project in Nibelheim, where he met and fell in love with a scientist named Lucrecia Crescent, an assistant to Professor Hojo.
However, unknown to Vincent at the time, Lucrecia had once been an assistant to his father Grimoire Valentine when he discovered the tainted lifestream that would form the WEAPON Chaos. Grimoire later died when the Chaos energy breached its containment, saving Lucrecia in the process. Vincent later discovered her link with his father and asked Lucrecia why she never told him, but she fled from him consumed by guilt and blaming herself for the accident. Vincent tried to express his feelings for her, but she rejected him out of the same sense of guilt.
Lucrecia became pregnant soon afterwards, and willingly devoted her unborn child to be the subject of the Jenova Project. Vincent was strongly opposed to this and confronted Hojo demanding to know if the rumors were true. Hojo shrugged him off telling him he had nothing to do with the project and that, as scientists, they where fully aware of what they were doing. In desperation Vincent turned to Lucrecia, asking if she was sure this was what she wanted, and she retorted that it concerned her and not him. In the interest of science, she decided to proceed with the treatment.
After a while, Lucrecia became very sick and started to see visions of what would become of her unborn son in the future, Sephiroth. Outraged, Vincent confronted Hojo in the Shinra Mansion's underground laboratory. Hojo, angered by Vincent's approach, pulled out a gun from his lab coat and shot Vincent in the stomach.
Lucrecia, horrified at Hojo's actions, tried to find a way to save the dying man, eventually turning to her unfinished thesis on Chaos, Omega, and the Lifestream. Hojo caught her looking at her files and mocked her, saying she just wanted to use Vincent to prove her thesis, as many of her colleagues thought it was “unrealistic”. Lucrecia refused this claim, desiring to save Vincent to make up for her past mistakes. Eventually she infused Vincent with the stagnant Lifestream she and Grimoire had found. However, though this revived Vincent it also infused him with the Chaos entity. Chaos became increasingly violent and attacking anything in its path. In addition, though it had revived Vincent, his flesh continued to decay and he would eventually die. Despairing, Lucrecia also added a special materia, later called the "Protomateria", inside Vincent, which kept Chaos under control but failed to stop his degradation.
At this point, Hojo took an interest in Vincents unique condition and proceeded to use his body as a test subject, which stabilized his body and rendered it almost indestructible. Due to Hojo's metamorphose experimentation, Vincent's anatomy was altered to the point where he could temporarily change his physical form into monstrous entities including Chaos itself (this also is the reason Chaos bonded with Vincent so well). This also sparked Hojo's own interest in Omega and his desire awaken it, bring it under his control and traverse to cosmos once the planet had died.
Vincent finally regained consciousness later on, awaking on an operating table. Vincent responded to his modified body with both anguish and rage, believing that this was his punishment for his “sin” of not saving Lucrecia from the Jenova Project. He punished himself further by sealing himself within a coffin in the Shinra Manor basement. Hojo then locked him in and protected the key inside a safe along with one of his experimental monsters that attack anyone who opened it. Rendered immortal due to the presence of Chaos and Hojos modifications Vincent remained asleep within the mansion basement for the next several decades.
After sleeping for thirty-one years, Vincent is found by Cloud, who had managed to retrieve the key from the safe. Vincent was surprised by Cloud's knowledge of Sephiroth (recognizing him as Lucrecia's son), and demands an explanation. Cloud tells him about everything that had happened and the atrocities Sephiroth has committed, but this only served to make Vincent feel even more guilty for his failure and he shuts himself back in the coffin. After some further coaxing from Cloud, he emerges from the coffin again and tells who he was and about Lucrecia, before sealing himself again. But when Cloud leaves the room and begins to head back upstairs, Vincent catches up to him and joins Cloud after learning that his group may eventually meet up with Hojo (with whom he had an understandable vendetta).
Extras: While still in human form Vincent is highly adept with various forms of firearms due to his training under the Turks. Its unknown what his capabilities where prior to his modifications but he now possesses speed, agility, and reflexes on par with those of a SOLDIER. He also has considerable stamina and healing abilities that allow him to regenerate from even extreme trauma (repairing a fist sized hole in his chest very rapidly). Hojo even described him as possessing a "nearly indestructible body", the reason why he serves as such a good host to Chaos.
Due to Lucrecia's implantation the Chaos entity into his body, Vincent no longer ages. In official materials his age has never changed remaining fixed at 27, which is presumably how old he was when Hojo nearly killed him.
Vincent's most distinctive ability is his shapeshifting: Behemoth, the Galian Beast; the Frankenstein's monster-like Death Gigas; Hellmasker, a homage to Jason Voorhees; and the vampire-like Chaos. These monsters are possibly embodiments of his hidden demons. Vincent needs the Protomateria contained within his body in order to use Chaos power effectively or else his mind is supplanted and he becomes a mindless force of destruction.
